The Alternative Investments Group (AIG) empowers UChicago students with the business and technical knowledge necessary for careers in alternative investments, including roles in asset management firms, hedge funds, family offices, pension funds, endowments, and other non-traditional financial fields. While traditional investment banking often focuses on the stock market, AIG emphasizes the diverse and expansive world of alternative assets—an asset class significantly larger in scope than just public equities. These include commodities, distressed assets, fixed income, foreign exchange, derivatives, energy, real estate, and private credit. AIG bridges the knowledge gap often found at non-business, liberal arts institutions, preparing members for successful careers in these areas through education, skill-building presentations, networking, and industry engagement.
